img_1373The zone diet is a high protein, low fat diet and is based on the idea of eating a balanced portion of carbohydrates, proteins and fats during each meal. The zone diet requires each meal to be measured and weighed out to maintain a proper balanced diet. The zone diet is high performance nutrition that helps improve physical and mental performance. Many athletes partake in this diet to optimize their performance and help them surpass their goals. This diet can also help aid in weight loss up to 1.5lb a week and promotes long term weight loss. It achieves proper hormone balance and stabilizes blood pressure to assist in weight loss. The zone diet is accommodating to all types of restrictive eaters including paleo, vegan, and organic.

This diet is measured into blocks. A block is a unit of measurement used to simplify the process of making balanced meals.  The meals can range from two blocks all the way to five blocks depending on your sex, active level, height, and weight. Athletes should consume a higher amount of blocks because they have intense workouts and are burning calories and increasing muscle mass. Below is the traditional block measurement. If you are on the 3 block meal plan, you would multiply the below grams of protein, carbohydrates, and fats by 3.

One Block Meal

  • 7 grams of protein
  • 9 grams of carbohydrates
  • 1.5 grams of fat
